Political fireworks played out on Saturday during the burial of Shinyalu MP Justus Kizito's mother as Amani National Congress leaders hit out at Raila Odinga over his recent handshakes with President Uhuru Kenyatta, and retired presidents Mwai Kibaki and Daniel Moi.
ANC leader Musalia Mudavadi's ally, Bonny Khalwale started by telling off Rala over the 2022 presidential race.
Khalwale said under the NASA pact, ODM will not produce a presidential candidate and should therefore support one produced by either ANC, Wiper or Ford Kenya.
“In the NASA agreement, a presidential candidate will come from Wiper, ANC or Ford-K and not ODM, Raila will therefore not be on the ballot,” said Khalwale.
Sabatia MP Alfred Agoi said that Raila had betrayed NASA.
“You have not only forgotten your colleagues; Musyoka, Mudavadi and Wetang’ula but have also left your supporters in a dilemma,” said Agoi.
A visibly angry Raila however told off the speakers.
“People should stop calling me a traitor over the handshake, I have no intentions of leaving NASA,” said Raila.
He added: "I am building bridges and making peace. We must salvage our country, which had reached a precipice and was about to tip over. This is why I am meeting leaders across the country.”
