Raila has promised that the Orange democratic Movement will conduct free and fair nomination for the 2017 General election.

The move is seen by many as a strategy to mend emerging rifts within the party, Odinga assured aspirants that the ODM ticket would not be subject to any favouritism  but a public vote.

“This time, it is you the people who will decide on the candidate to carry the ODM flag in next year’s election,” he promised.

The Cord leader further stated that party primaries set for February and March will be conducted early to allow enough time for any appeals.

Raila was speaking in Kisumu county while attending the burial ceremony of Kisumu County ODM chairman Ayiecho Olweny's mother.

ODM has in the past been accused of unfairness in their party primaries.

South Mugirango MP Manson Nyamweya had already indicated the unfairness and planned to vie for Kisii gubernatorial seat under Kenya National Congress party. Similar concerns also raised by former ODM Bungoma chairman, Sirisia MP John Walukhe.
