Former Mombasa gubernatorial candidate, Suleiman Shahbal has echoed his voice in support of a meeting between President Uhuru Kenyatta and NASA coalition leader Raila Odinga.
Shahbal, a Jubilee Party politician who unsuccessfully vied twice and lost to Ali Hassan Joho, said Raila-Uhuru unity defined democracy.
He issued a brief statement on Saturday, saying:
"It is such moments that define us as a Nation; that we can disagree. Hotly and bitterly fight for what we believe in. However, when the necessity of time demands that we pull together as one nation with a common course, we don't object!
Such moments define both our character and maturity of our democracy; that the interest of the Nation is far much greater than our individual interests and ambitions.
President Uhuru Kenyatta and Right Hon. Raila Odinga have set an excellent example that shall echo across the history of this Nation.
Congratulations great statesmen that our Nation ever produced!"
The statement came even as Joho, his (Shahbal's) closest rival and ODM Deputy Party Leader defended Odinga following the meeting, speaking same language with the Mombasa businessman.
"I wish to express my support for my party leader the Rt. Hon. Raila Amollo Odinga in his efforts towards unity, peace and justice in Kenya. I pray that God gives him strength and wisdom to deliver a brighter future for all of us in this country," said Joho.
