Deputy President William Ruto has warned the Luhya community against endorsing Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party leader Raila Odinga for president.
Speaking when he took Jubilee Party campaigns to Likuyani in Kakamega County, Ruto said the NASA presidential candidate will 'betray' the Luhya nation by not naming one of them to succeed him if he clinches the presidency in next month general election.
"Raila will not pass over the mantle to one of you even if the Western vote overwhelmingly for NASA in August 8 poll," said Ruto on Monday.
Two leaders from the region; Musalia Mudavadi of Amani National Congress (ANC) and Ford- Kenya's Moses Wetang'ula have expressed interest in taking over power from Raila after he retires.
Raila signed an agreement with his co-principals in the opposition alliance pledging to rule for a single term up to 2022.
NASA also has Wiper party leader Kalonzo Musyoka and Bomet Governor Isaac Ruto as principals.
But Ruto said the ODM leader is 'untrustworthy' and urged Western Kenya residents to back the reelection of President Uhuru Kenyatta whom he said has initiated many development projects in the area.
"Jubilee administration has in four years initiated many projects which have been felt by the people. You should back us since we are destined to win the next election because of our clear vision and agenda for this country,” said Ruto.
The DP promised to name a Luhya as his running mate if the community rallies behind him in his 2022 presidential bid.
