Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader Raila Odinga’s statement that he will not make another stab at presidency in 2022 general election is a blessing to Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho, political analyst Peter Ngure has said.
Ngure notes that Raila’s statement that he will not vie for presidency boosts governor Johos’s bid.
In an interview on Monday, Ngure said that chances of Raila now backing governor Joho in 2022 are high.
He said that Joho remains Raila’s favorite should he opt not contest for presidency in 2022.
“Governor Joho should be smiling and lobbying for Raila’s endorsement following the former prime ministers statement that he will not be on the ballot in 2022,” he said.
The analyst however said that Raila cannot be trusted, adding that his statement could be a ploy to confuse his competitors.
“Raila is a political schemer and strategist and no one should believe what he says as for now,” he added.
On Sunday, Raila distanced himself from reports that he will fly the ODM ticket in 2022.
Raila said that those advocating for his presidency are doing so on their own individual and personal capacity.
He added that his focus is to see a united country adding that Kenyans should avoid being distracted by the ongoing 2022 succession politics.
Governor Joho is among top leaders who have declared interest in the top seat and he is banking on Raila’s support.
In an interview recently, the Mombasa governor said that his 2022 presidential bid is unstoppable.
