Nairobi gubernatorial aspirant Peter Kenneth has claimed that Deputy President William Ruto was the mastermind behind rigging that saw him lose the Jubilee nominations to Mike Sonko.
Kenneth says Sonko is DP’s project, and he (Ruto) worked hard to ensure Sonko clinched the ticket.
Speaking on Tuesday when he campaigned in Nairobi’s Mlango Kubwa area, Kenneth told the locals that he won the party nominations but was rigged out by Ruto, who he says was aiding Sonko at the Jubilee Party’s headquarters.
“Alikua anasaidiwa na mtu ambaye alikua anataka kutukata miguu, yeye ni project ya nani, yeye ni project ya Ruto, acha tuongee vile ukweli iko, (he was aided by someone who did not want to see us progress, he is Ruto’s project, let us just be honest,” he said.
“Na huyo ndiye alikua anamsaidia kule headquarters, lakini tukasema ni sawa tutaendelea na ile maono tuko nayo kuhusu Nairobi, tutaifanya tukiwa independent, (And its him who was helping him from the party headquarters, but we will push with our agenda an independents,” he added.
Kenneth lost to Sonko in the Jubilee party primaries in April, and decided to run as an independent candidate.
Early this week, sonko reached out to Keneeth urging him to abandon his ambition and instead support him, in order to make a united front.
The two are vying for the capital’s top seat, and will be looking to oust incumbent Evans Kidero.
