Barely a day after opposition outfit NASA unveiled Raila Odinga s their presidential candidate, fresh details have emerged how the deal, which had been delayed due to internal wrangles was reached.
With both technical committee of David Ndii and James Orengo’s National Coordinating Committee having submitted their finding on parameters to use when selecting presidential candidate, the process was however not that easy.
And a member of NCC who spoke in confidence reveals that all coalition partners were involved in deep consultations which never seemed to arrive an amicable settlement.
But last minute intervention of Bomet Governor Isaac Rutto and Bungoma Senator Moses Wetangula, both who serves as co-principals, tilted things in favour of Mr. Odinga.
“As a committee we can up with several options that they were to sit and give us a flag bearer. They were scheduled for a retreat but it failed to work. However, they were forced to sit in different hotels till late night,” said the source.
The source added: “But Wetangula and Rutto threw their weight behind Raila and that forced Musalia Mudavadi and Kalonzo Musyoka to have no option other than to give in.”
Under the new structure should they form government, Raila Odinga would serve as one term president while Musyoka will deputize him.
Mudavadi would serve as Premier Cabinet Secretary while Rutto and Wetangula would deputize him should NASA win.
