The emotive land issue in Mombasa is one of the factors that are expected to shape the county's political landscape in the run to the August 8 elections.

Governor hopeful Suleiman Shahbal who has criticized the current county leadership for doing little to deal with the problem has put in place various measures that will make it an issue of the past if elected.Speaking at Ziwa la Ng'ombe in Nyali constituency on Friday, the Jubilee politician said his leadership will push for Mombasa County Squatter Trust Fund Bill which will be passed into law by the County Assembly.According to Shahbal, the money will then be given to squatters to buy plots of land to enable them live with dignity. On his part, Anania Mwaboza who is Shahbal's running mate said that should they form the next county government, they will ensure that all the controversial land issues in the county are dealt with. While castigating Governor Hassan Joho, the duo said that the incumbent is riding on the land issues in the county for political mileage yet he is doing little to address it.
