However, modernization has killed this tradition.

Some learned people shy away from it terming the practice archaic but most men are polygamous secretly.

The modern woman has restricted men thus escalating "Mpango wa kando" engagements.

Things turn from bad to worse when you are a public figure, you are totally tamed but former minister Nyachae says he has reaped a lot from polygamy.

The veteran politician from Kisii took the opportunity during the last ceremony of his wife Esther to explain fruits of a successful polygamous union.

He is a grandfather, a father as well as a loving husband to three wives who he thanked for their unity and great care they have accorded him.

Narrating to mourners on Monday Nyachae said, “None of them was ever rude to me. In fact, we have been very close like a brother and sisters. When I married, I was worried about their closeness. I wondered what would happen if they united against me. We lived in one compound all these years.”

He thanked them for learning to deal with his temperaments and raising their children accordingly.

“Whenever I arrived home, I never asked for food. I would arrive, sit and food would be brought. I was never a beggar in my house,” Nyachae added.
