Apparently, the Nairobi governor Mike Sonko just tagged himself to the tongue-waggling meeting between opposition leader Raila Odinga and the former head of state Mwai Kibaki on Friday, April 20.
On the same date that Raila met Kibaki, the governor had requested to meet the former prime minister after which he tagged himself among side Mr. Odinga into the meeting.
Allegedly, the handshake is among the political dynasties protecting their political interests and Mike Sonko is nowhere on the list. And again, the role of Sonko in the meeting is unclear and probably he had none.
The opposition leader was accompanied by Kisumu governor Anyang’ Nyong’o who is a close ally and lawyer Paul Mwangi, his legal advisor and co-chairman of the team drawing up the terms of reference of the handshake deal. This leaves a rhetorical question, who is Sonko to Raila?
On the same lane, also present were Kibaki’s nephew Governor Nderitu Muriithi, Joseph Kinyua the Head of Civil Service and Kibaki’s eldest son Jimmy Kibaki.
It is clear that those present were from the national government or relative to the duo leaving Mike Sonko as the odd one out.
Therefore, governor Sonko might have been a gatecrasher in the Raila-Kibaki handshake.
