Despite meeting opposition chief Raila Odinga earlier on Friday, Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko's presence in the latter's meeting with retired President Mwai Kibaki has caused confusions.

Later on in the day, Sonko would reveal that the former PM had requested him to accompany him to Muthaiga where the meeting took place.

"Today has been a pleasant day as I was co-opted by Raila to accompany him to the residence of the former president Mwai Kibaki," he said.

For the last one month, Raila has been involved in a series of handshakes with his former political enemies with only DP William Ruto being the odd one out.

And on Friday, Sonko who has been championing for Ruto's 2022 presidency, was involved in the famous handshake, with people failing to establish whether he was representing President Uhuru Kenyatta or Ruto.

"It is quite confusing because Sonko supports Ruto, who is silently against the handshake. His role within the meeting is a bit confusing," admitted Prof Nyacheo Bogonko, a political analyst.

In his meeting with Kibaki, Raila updated his former coalition principal over his decision to work with Uhuru contrary to expectations on many Kenyans.

Also present in the meeting were Peter Nyong'o, an ally of Raila and Laikipia governor Nderitu Muriithi, a nephew to Kibaki.
