Details have emerged regarding State House's hand in imposing a running-mate on Senator Mike Sonko in the Nairobi gubernatorial race.
After failing to persuade Sonko to quit the Nairobi governor's race, President Uhuru Kenyatta decided to fix on him a 'sober-minded, CEO-like' running mate.
According to The Star, Uhuru mandated trusted State House operatives to interview possible running mates for Sonko who had just won the Jubilee ticket by a landslide.
Uhuru is reported to have asked private secretary Gecaga Jomo and Solicitor General Njee Muturi to oversee the recruitment of a stronger manager.
The duo then settled on Vivo Energy MD Polycarp Igathe, a Jubilee strategist and President Uhuru's adviser on energy issues.
Jubilee's direct hand in picking Sonko's running mate has now set the tempo for a bruising battle to control the capital.
"The team has been working in secrecy for some days after Uhuru ordered them to search for Sonko's running mate," said a State House operative as reported by the Star.
