Fresh details are emerging on how the house on the hill made frantic calls to ensure that Nairobi governor aspirant Mike Mbuvi Sonko was cleared to run.
In a classic example of it matters more in Kenya on who you know than what you know, Sonko was ‘sorted out’ when State House operatives intervened after instructions from their boss.
According to a local paper, Sonko rushed to State House after learning there were elements within the Mt Kenya faction of the Jubilee government who were hell bent to ensure he is locked out of the Jubilee nominations.
A die-hard fan of President Uhuru Kenyatta, Sonko stormed State House breathing fire.
State House then, is alleged to have made calls to DCI chief Ndegwa Muhoro seeking answers to why the flashy politician was still being taken in rounds.
The call was allegedly made by President Uhuru Kenyatta’s handler Jomo Gecaga.
After the ‘hot call’, officers were instructed to clear Sonko with immediate effect and look for him to hand in the Certificate of Good Conduct.
It is not clear why Sonko was being denied the paper yet he had been cleared before for various posts.
Sources privy to Jubilee’s inner game of power play, however, intimated that remnants of ‘Mt Kenya Mafia’ in the Jubilee government are pushing President Kenyatta to dump Sonko and support Peter Kenneth in the race.
This featured in a meeting Sonko attended at State House, during the certificate’s mishap, where Kenyatta is alleged to have prevailed on Sonko to still remain the super senator of Nairobi.
Sonko could not hear any of it.
His biggest issue with Kenneth is alleged utterances the 2013 presidential candidate made when Uhuru was facing crimes against humanity at the Hague-based ICC court.
