New revelations reveal that the arson attack on Moi Girls High School in Nairobi was planned on a WhatsApp group before tuition resumed this term.
Nine students lost their life as dozens of others sustained burn injuries.
Capital reports that, the initial plan was to execute the killer move on August 31. However, the original plan failed due to interruptions by movement of people during the August 31st night. The evil urge did not stop there, the arsonist rescheduled his plan to two days ahead thereby executing her plan on September 2, the fateful day that left the country in bitterness.
Earlier speculation that the fire broke out due to an electric fault were dismissed. Kenya Power says that the fire which spread very quickly according to witnesses, started in four different places within the school’s Kabarnet dormitory.
Details have emerged of a five-member WhatsApp group extracted from the lead suspect’s phone, which show the incident was planned during the holiday.
The 14-year-old girl intended to burn the school for a variety of reasons among them her hatred for the institution which she had been struggling to leave.
In the WhatsApp group conversation thread, the five members, all students at the institution discussed the incident with the suspect exhibiting aggressiveness and irritation.
She texted: “I will burn the school”.
Another says, “I will burn the school because my parents refused to take me to (*** school). I want to do something that will shock them.”
The teen suspect is said to be a passionate writer. A detective who spoke to the local news site said she confessed to have been a frequent writer of disturbing material on magic and cults.
Before the fire razed down the dormitory, the suspect is said to have called two of her friends and left the dormitory for safety.
The dormitory had 336 occupants, a majority of them being form one students.
