According to Abraham Lincoln, democracy is a rule of the people, by the people and for the people. Kenya is a democratic country. Numbers play an immense role in the race for the presidency. Former Vice President Kalonzo Musyoka has hinted at contesting for the nation’s top seat. He needs the support of different leaders to ascend to power.
Here are the seven leaders who are likely to hand over power to Kalonzo when that time comes:
1.President Uhuru Kenyatta
President Uhuru Kenyatta's decision will be very crucial as far as the 2022 presidency is concerned. Kalonzo will be in a better position to win the seat if Uhuru surprisingly backs him for the post. Although Uhuru has assured Ruto of his support, anything can happen.
2. Former Prime Minister Raila Odinga
The opposition leader remains one of the most powerful leaders in the nation. He controls massive support in the political arena. Raila had promised to support Kalonzo in 2022. If he keeps his word, Kalonzo will be a force to reckon with.
3. Deputy President William Ruto
Ruto has already declared his candidature in 2022. It is not impossible for Ruto to make a U-turn. Despite the fact that Ruto is not likely to support Kalonzo time will tell.
4. Ford-Kenya leader Moses Wetangula
'Weta Mtetezi', as he is popularly known in Western Kenya, is a force to reckon with. The candidate he will support will garner many votes from his backyard. His influence in the Western region cannot be ignored.
5. ANC leader Musalia Mudavadi
Just like Weta, Mudavadi is considered an influential leader from the Luhya community. Mudavadi was once a vice president and his support for Kalonzo cannot be underestimated by any candidate.
6. Mombasa Governor Ali Hassan Joho
Governor Joho influences the Coastal politics. He has expressed his candidature in 2022. The ODM's deputy party leader’s support for Kalonzo will change the politics of this nation during that period.
7. Kilifi Governor Amason Kingi
Governors Joho and Kingi play an immense role in this country's politics. The two were known for launching endless attacks against President Uhuru Kenyatta and his deputy William Ruto during their first term in office. Kingi could be a big win for Kalonzo.
