The issue of betting has become so controversial. In Kenya, almost 80 percent of our dear youths engage in betting.
30 percent of our parents to our surprise have also become addicts and has made betting their businesses. For those of us who bet, you will agree with me that most are the times when we lose. After my analysis, I have lost much more than I have gained.
Is it that I am not lucky! I don’t think so!
Like caffeine, ceasing betting has become so difficult. To save our generation from frustrations, stress poverty and obsession I came up with the following strategies to avoid being an addict.
First and foremost is, avoid having money in your Mpesa. When you have money in your Mpesa, temptations force you to deposit to your betting sites and bet.
I advise people to put their money in either M-shwari lock savings account or their bank accounts. This will make you evade temptations.
If you have any application on your phone that supports sport and gaming you have to delete. They will definitely lure you to bet.
Another thing is your company. The people you move with dictate what you do. If most of them are in betting you will yourself betting.
And since you can`t afford to lose your friends that easily, try to bring up some topics that will discourage them from betting and also you can try to involve yourself in some healthy arguments like politics.
If you must get your money online, there are many online jobs on board. Online jobs include digital marketing, online freelance which can be either writing or transcription, blogging, and many others. Here you don’t have a chance to earn.
I know it is not easy to refuse being an addict but this must be a gradual call. Let’s save our money and avoid easy money since betting has rendered our people being lazy. Our people have refused to work and have engaged themselves in betting with the little they hustle.
I understand that there are some people that have won lump some but that’s their luck. Don’t be deceived that one day you will be a jackpot winner. You will never be!
