With the country grappling with dire economic realities, going to the Nairobi Central Business District (CBD) is turning out to be quite a gamble.
An innocent visit to town can turn out to be a nightmare that leads to regrets.
Packs of thugs are on the prowl in the city, scanning their surroundings for an unsuspecting victim to pounce on.
With that being the fact of city life, it is important to know how to avoid falling for those thugs.
Here are some of the techniques to use when in the CBD:
1: Be alert to your surroundings: After taking like ten steps, make sure you look behind yourself just to make sure that no one is following you with intentions to steal from you.
When you do that, anyone with such intentions will think twice as most of these thugs pounce on unsuspecting victims.
2. Avoid plugging your earbuds into your ears: Most of the people who have fallen victim to thuggery in the CBD are those listening to music through their earbuds. They are easy targets because they are distracted.
3. Avoid talking to strangers: Never stop to talk to strangers. Such conversations are used to lure victims into situations where they are robbed.
4. Avoid dark alleyways: Make sure that you always walk in open places. Dark alleyways, vichochoro as we call them, are dangerous because they habour thugs who hide in them.
5. Hide your money from public view: Avoid exposing your wallet. Keep it from where it cannot be seen by the public.
When you expose it, you attract thugs, giving them an idea of where your cash is.
