People boarding a vehicle (Photo/nation.co.ke)Vomiting is a big problem happening to most travellers who are sensitive to smell, motion, space or those who don’t travel regularly over long distances. Vomiting will affect other travellers, and give them uncomfortable conditions for their travel. But good news is that it can be avoided by doing these simple things:
Provide air ventilation
Adequate air ventilation might help prevent car sickness. More so, good air ventilation will help in providing adequate air in the vehicle, hence avoiding certain bad smell, such as burnt tires smell, petrol smell, and odors from neighbors in the vehicle.
Carefully plan pre-trip meals
The kind of food you eat will highly determine whether you will vomit when travelling or not. Eating spicy and greasy meals will make you vomit. More so, eating large meals immediately before you travel might cause you vomit. if you must eat while travelling, consider small, bland snacks and simple drinks before you embark on your journey.
Take medication
You can opt for Over-the-counter (OTC) medications to prevent vomiting. Take Dramamine, which will help in blocking H1 histamine receptors responsible for stimulating vomiting due to motion sickness. However, this medication has side effects such as dry mouth and even urinary retention.
Use Ginger
Ginger helps prevent vomiting in pregnant women. You can take a cup of tea with crushed ginger or chew a small piece of ginger root. Ginger is effective and safe in preventing and treating nausea and vomiting in pregnant women.
Avoid congested vehicles
If you know you have a problem of vomiting whenever you travel, avoid congested vehicles. Congested vehicles have limited air circulation. This increases chances of bad odor, petrol smell that causes vomiting.
