The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has removed 88,602 names from the voter register.

The names belong to dead registered voters.

This follows a recommendation by audit firm, KPMG, that the names of dead voters be expunged from the register.

IEBC said 19,611,423 Kenyans are eligible to vote in this year's General Election.

“The certified Register of Voters for the 2017 General Election has a total of 19,611,423 voters. This number includes 4,393 diaspora in 5 countries and 5,528 registered in 118 prisons across the country,” IEBC chairman Wafula Chebukati said on Tuesday

The electoral agency also said that voters will be able to check their registration details from Thursday, June 29.

Kenyans will use text messages and also go online to check their registration details.
