The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) released an SMS code, which Kenyans can use to confirm if they are registered voters, their polling stations, ahead of the August 8, general elections.

Kenyans can confirm their voter registration details by sending their Identification (ID) number to SMS code 70000. It is however, chargeable.

After sending, one receives an sms message with the following details; voter registration names, county of registration, constituency of registration, polling station code, name of polling station, ward of registration and finally, IEBC contact details.

"The register of voters shall be made available online and via SMS for purposes of inspection starting Thursday 29th June 2017 until the Election Day. Meanwhile, the detailed statistics have been availed for review and analysis by other stakeholders," IEBC said, before the service kicked off.
