Conductors or 'makanga' as they are popularly known in Kenya can sometimes be a pain in the bowels especially when it comes to giving back change.

Many will agree that Kenyan makangas are very strict when it comes to asking passengers to pay for fares but are adamant when it comes to giving passengers their change.

Thika makangas are no different. They give no chills and asking them for your change amounts to a war of words which sometimes turn physical. So, how do you deal with the adamant Thika 'makangas'? Give exact money for the journey: The way to avoid hell is to avoid the devil himself.

The same way, to avoid a confrontation with these makangas just make sure you just give enough money for the journey. Insist that you have your change before the makanga moves to the next passenger.

Failure to do so will leave you begging for your change. Do not listen something like 'sina change saa hizi ngojea'. This is nonsense and is equivalent of you telling them to wait for your fare till the end of the journey which as you know is almost impossible.
