January which has now come to be known by Kenyans as Njaanuary, is a name which was coined due to the fact that most Kenyans are usually so broke after squandering money during the Christmas and New Year Festivities. It is the time when Kenyans are so broke that they only eat Ugali and vegetables as they reflect and discuss stories about the days they used to enjoy meat. A time when the only cheque that is being passed around is a rain-check. A time when big bosses from the big companies walk around town at lunch time with toothpicks in their mouths just to confuse their enemies because they only ate air-burgers.

With this in mind, some Kenyans have come up with tactics to help them sail through this tough month;

1 ) Deception

Some Kenyans have devised new ways to cone people off their hard earned money. An example of this is when an individual recently came up with an idea of publishing a newspaper advert in one of our the local dailies asking for medical help. However, the said plea may have been a hoax as somebody noticed it and has now taken to social media to warn other Kenyans not to fall into the trap.

2) Hilarious quotes

Some of the hilarious quotes that Kenyans have come up with with regards to January to help them forget their struggles include;

‘Umewai skia njaa sana na hauna pesa ya food mpaka inabaki uende kortini ndio at least ukule kiapo?‬

‘ Mganga Hatari: Dr. Chimwara from Kinango anatibu kuongezwa mshahara, landlord kutouliza kodi, KPLC kusahau bill, kondakta kutolipisha nauli na airtime kutoisha.’

‘Just discovered that my neighbor is an Illuminati, how can one eat meat twice per week in Njanuary? He needs our prayers.’

These are just but a few ways that Kenyans have devised to help Njaanuary fly past not forgetting hilarious photos that are still doing rounds on social media. I can bet that some folks are seated at the edge of their seats waiting for the 12 days that are remaining this January to be over.
