The Government and Kenyans at large are in the know of the fake sugar being sold in some parts of country. This fake sugars is said to be endowed with mercury, yeasts, moulds and copper which are highly toxic in nature and can take a toll by attributing to long-term effects in our bodies.
So, how can someone identify a fake or real sugar in the first place? Well, identifying it is a piece of cake.
Here is how to go about it
First and foremost, add two tablespoons of the sugar in question in a sufuria. Thereafter, place it in a source of heat. Leave it to boil or heat for couple of minutes. In the event of boiling, you will notice some chemical changes ranging from the color to odor.
In this case, if it's a genuine sugar, the following changes will be observed; The sugar will turn from it's original color to a dark brown or caramel color. The sugar will produce a cyclotene-like or caramellic odor.
On the other hand, if it is a fake sugar, the following will be noted; Since the sugar is endowed with traces of mercury, it will give a red color upon decomposition unlike the real sugar. Furthermore, a black color of copper metal may appear as well. In this case, be keen when observing the changes.
Regarding the odor, an odorless and a choking smell will be produced and there you have it.
