The Kenya Civil Aviation Authority(KCCA) currently has not placed any limit on a helicopter which can be registered.

However, in order to be eligible for registration, a helicopter must not be registered under the laws of a foreign country or be foreign-owned.

The Civil Aviation Act regulations provide for the sole exemption that a foreign individual  " lawfully admitted for residency" as an owner may have their helicopter for registration.

In order to qualify as an owner of a legal helicopter, the owner must either be a citizen, a corporate entity incorporated under the laws of Kenya, the government of Kenya or a government authority established under the laws of Kenya.

A helicopter under a lease, charter or hire purchase agreement to a qualified person shall be eligible for registration, provided that it is to a qualified person and remains registered as such for the duration of the agreement.

The Authority may also allow an unqualified person residing or having a place of business in Kenya having a legal or beneficial interest in an aircraft to register the same only on the condition that the helicopter shall not be utilized for commercial gain.

With respect to corporate entities engaged in a transaction, due diligence should be undertaken on local companies at the companies Registry to ascertain not only that the company is validly registered but also that the corporate authorizations are issued by the appropriate parties and determine whether there are any existing securities that may create preferential rights  in favour of a third party over the lessee or borrower's interest in a helicopter.

Upon receiving an application for the registration of a helicopter and being satisfied that  the helicopter may properly be registered, the authority  shall register the helicopter and  shall include the following particulars;-the number of certificate,the nationality mark of the helicopter,the registration mark assigned of the helicopter by the authority,the serial number of the helicopter,the name and the address of every person who entitled as owner to a legal interest in the helicopter or a share therein.

In the case of a lease  agreement or financial arrangement, the names and addresses of the lease and the lessor or as the case may be,the financier,the name or logo of the issuing authority,the register of unmanned free balloons shall contain the date,time and location of the release,the type of balloon and the name of the operator and finally the certificate will contain conditions with regard to which it is registered.
