However, there are certain things that are likely to affect the future of domestic and international tourism in this part of the nation unless something is done in good time.

To start with, one of the things that can kill the future of tourism in this region is security.

With the recent cases of terrorist attacks and increased number of youths being radicalised, something needs to be done before it is too late.

Insecurity is the greatest enemy of tourism not only in Mombasa but also internationally, thus the county and national governments have to work together to ensure Mombasa is secure.

Secondly, the government should improve the county’s infrastructure. Poor transport in this region is a nightmare facing both the international and domestic tourists.

The government should think of ways to invest more money in the transport sector if at all it wants tourism to remain one of the country's highest revenue earners.

Thirdly, a reduction on taxes levied by the government on the hotel and transport sectors is likely to promote both international and domestic tourism. Many people do not travel to Mombasa because of the high cost of accommodation and transport.
