Nakuru town, or Nax Vegas as it is commonly referred to by a section of the locals, is one of the most beautiful towns in Kenya.
The town derives its beauty from its geographical position right in the middle of the Rift Valley and the Lake Nakuru to the south, a popular flamingo destination.
Nakuru, however, has its own set of shortcomings, one being the growth of slums, commonly known as ghettos.
Ghetto life in this town can be hard and tricky but here are four sure ways to survive and live happily in these congested residences.
1. Mind your own business
Avoid being too nosy and overly involved in other people's affairs and only come in when you really have to.
Let your drunkard neighbors keep enjoying their regular drink. Do not assume a pastor's role to try and talk them out of it because, at the end of the day, they are doing nothing illegal.
Interference in people's lives, in these areas, most of which have very little or no law and order, can land you in trouble.
2. Be the people's guy
You have to make a name for yourself in these dwellings. Try to stand out but do not push too hard to achieve it.
Be a person the others can relate to and in return, you will gain respect. As a result, you will be a step away from possible rows and conflicts.
3. Share with your neighbors
Always be there for your fellow residents and neighbors. However, observe some distance to avoid being a hindrance.
Share with them when need be and they will do the same to you.
Each ghetto is known to have a group of individuals who cannot observe the rule of law and by relating well to your neighbors, you can count on their response whenever you raise a distress call.
4.Be polite and courteous
This is a slum and you do not want to be isolated from the others.
A loose tongue can also lead to disagreements and fights, portraying a bad picture of you.
Make a name for yourself as the good guy and your fellow residents will respect you.
