Thika Town Member of Parliament Patrick Wainaina has decried increasing cases of criminal activities in his constituency.
Wainaina blamed the runaway insecurity on police laxity and asked the Inspector General of Police Joseph Boinnet to transfer senior officers in the area whom he accused of sleeping on the job.
He commended Boinnet for making some minor changes in the police department recently but noted that an overhaul was necessary for a crime to end in the area.
"We need to see more changes within the top police organs in Thika because recent changes only saw junior staff reshuffled which has not resulted in the reduction of crime," he said.
Wainaina spoke on Friday when he paid a visit a surgeon who was on Tuesday attacked by a gang at his home in Ngoigwa Estate.
Kimani Kagimbi, a top ear, nose and throat specialist, was shot four times in the head, upper chest and arm shortly after the gang killed his wife in a night raid.
The MP vowed to ensure that the criminals responsible for the attack would be brought to book and pledged to beef up security in the area.
"I shall ensure that public land that had been set aside for construction of a police post is reclaimed from land grabbers," Wainaina said, adding he would install street lights and construct a perimeter wall around the estate.
