At times, going to a VCT can be an uphill task especially when you are suspicious about your health. The dilemma of whether you are HIV positive or not makes you feel anxious and nervous. Actually, no more worries. You can test your HIV status at home with HIV test kits.

HIV test kits are swift and easy to use. In a span of at least 10 minutes you will have your HIV test result ready. Ensure that you have the following materials; alcohol prep pad, lancet, pipette, cassette and sample diluent

The next thing, you will follow these procedures;

Firstly, be in a room temperature. Wipe your fingers with alcohol swab . Thereafter, remove the cap from the safety lancet. 

Place the Lancet at the finger and press it to puncture the finger. 

Then, gather at least 2 drops of blood sample using a pipette. 

Using the pipette, place one drop of blood sample into the well marked S. 

Add 2 drops of the sample diluent into the well marked S so as to facilitate movement of the blood sample. 

As mentioned earlier, wait for at least 10 minutes to interpret the result. 

Positive HIV result (HIV antibodies detected). In a layman language , two lines which are red in color will appear. 

If you are HIV negative, no HIV antibodies detected and thus you are in good shape.
