When the results for this year's Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) were released on Wednesday by the Education Cabinet Secretary Dr. Fred Matiang'i, two candidates at the Moi Girls High School, Eldoret were ranked among the top ten nationally.

Sharon Chepchumba was the second best candidate with a mean score of 86.83 while Sheryl Wahome Wanyiri was ranked at position 9.

We sought to find out from the teachers the secret behind the exemplary performance of the two girls.

According to the Moi Girls High School Deputy Principal in charge of administration Loise Karoney, disciple, trust in God and hard work is all that propelled the two to be ranked among the best countrywide.

The school's traditions also helped in the candidates' performance.

"We always encourage our students to go for big courses at the university so every time they do an exam they see themselves as doctors, engineers, and all those big professions," the happily looking Karoney said, Wednesday.

Moi Girls, one of the oldest national schools had 289 candidates sitting for this year's examination.

"The second top girl was a consistent performer throughout. She always focused on her academics, disciplined and what she wanted to do at the university," said the Deputy Principal.

"The 9th best candidate was our head girl but she managed to balance between her administrative roles of maintaining discipline among other students in school and at the same time maintained her performance," she added.
