Wiper Party Deputy Leader Farah Maalim has claimed that President Uhuru Kenyatta is planning to remain in power beyond 2022.

The former Lagdera MP said that President Uhuru wants to push for constitutional change to create a powerful Prime Minister position.

The former National Assembly Deputy Speaker said that it is inevitable that the constitution will be changed and that President Kenyatta will return to power following the political realignments that came with the handshake with ODM leader Raila Odinga.

Speaking on AM Live on Monday, Mr Maalim said based on President Kenyatta’s visit to Uganda, Rwanda, and Ethiopia during his two terms, he is planning to change the constitution so he can serve as a prime minister in the next government.

“We are headed for a referendum, the constitution will be changed. This will become a parliamentary system and Uhuru is going to be the Prime Minister,” said Mr Maalim.

Following the handshake between President Kenyatta and NASA leader, Raila, the opposition have been pushing for a change in the constitution to create a new executive post for the Prime Minister.
