Speaking today in Meru during the funeral of victims of a grisly road crash, President Uhuru Kenyatta dropped a bombshell: He called on NTSA officers to get out of Kenya's roads and allow traffic officers to take charge. The presidential order came in the wake of spirited public relations campaign by Francis Meja, NTSA boss, to save face, saying that the authority was doing what it could possibly do to reduce the carnage on roads. This leaves him deeply humiliated as the order signals the president's total lack of confidence in the authority's ability to enforce the traffic code. The order compounds the public confidence crisis that NTSA has been battling in the wake of frequent road carnage.
