Now that President Uhuru Kenyatta’s newly appointed Cabinet Secretaries have taken oath after a rigorous vetting by MPs, all is set for the transformation of the lives of Kenyans through the delivery of the Big Four Agenda.
President Kenyatta has made it clear his main focus within the next five years will be food security, healthcare for all, affordable housing and manufacturing.
Under the critical pillar of housing, the government plans to build 200,000 new housing units and another 800,000 affordable homes by the time President Kenyatta’s term ends. To enable any working Kenyan own a home, the government intends to work with the private sector to attract funding in real estate.
Agriculture CS Mwangi Kiunjuri will play an important role in ensuring Kenyans have plenty of food, even during dry months. More than 57 dams, set to cost billions of shillings, are set to be built to support growing of food in dry areas.
Some of the key water projects include the Sh7 billion Northern Water Collector Tunnel in Murang’a, the Sh35 billion Mwache dam at the Coast, the Sh19 billion Thiba dam in Kirinyaga, the Sh63 billion Thwake dam in Eastern among others.
Supporting manufacturing will enable young people to get millions of Kenyans new jobs every year. Already, President Kenyatta’s administration has constructed thousands of kilometres of roads, and other breakthrough infrastructure projects, such as the Standard Gauge Railway. New industries will boost the economy and improve the incomes of the people.
By the time the head of state's term ends, nearly all Kenyans will have a health insurance.
During the past five years, the government equipped a major hospital in every county with high-end screening machines. What is now left is empowering Kenyans to afford treatment in good hospitals.
