A top Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) official has given Ford Kenya party leader Moses Wetagula one condition to fulfill if he wants to retain his Senate minority leader seat.
Edwin Sifuna (ODM Secretary General) said on Wednesday that Wetangula should blame himself for his "arrogance" that ignited his ouster. He however, said if the Bungoma Senator apologizes to Senators for his "disrespect" he would retain the position.
Sifuna said Wetangula does not respect other Senators by virtue of him being a NASA co-principal, a development that angered opposition senators leading to his removal from the minority seat.
All senators allied to the opposition approved Wetangula's removal from the prestigious position he said.
"He should blame himself. In the Senate NASA treats all senators equal and non is above the other," Sifuna said.
"But NASA's top leadership has been receiving complaints of disrespect on his part. Not even Raila could stop his ouster because the whole saga was initiated by the senators themselves. He only has one option- to apologize if he wants to retain the seat."
Wetangula was removed from the Senate minority leader post on Tuesday after ODM Senators wrote to Senate Speaker Kenneth Lusaka seeking his removal and immediate replacement by his Siaya counterpart James Orengo.
The development has ignited discord in the opposition with some Ford Kenya, Amani National Congress and Wiper party elected leaders threatening to leave the opposition political outfit.
