In January 2017, Makueni Governor Kivutha Kibwana got embarrassed in his own backyard after Wiper supporters heckled him when he was called to give his speech.
It's a day Governor Kibwana will never forget, his efforts to calm the crowd added fuel to the fire.
Being a Muungano party governor then, Kibwana had a slim chance of retaining his seat in 8, 2018 elections.
Kibwana had lost the trust of the electorates whose majority were waiting for a chance to send him home in the ballot.
That can be justified with the fact that, 96 percent of the Makueni residents wanted President Uhuru Kenyatta to dissolve the whole county leadership in 2015.Kibwana had hosted Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka for a voter registration mobilization campaign during the incident. He had rejected Kalonzo's plea for him to ditch his Muungano party and join Wiper for a united political force in the Ukambani region.Kibwana had turned down the request stating he was comfortable supporting Kalonzo from Muungano party. He said he was more loyal than other leaders in Wiper.Amidst the heckling, the governor was unable to continue with his speech prompting Kalonzo to rise and calmed the charged crowd.Months later, Kibwana couldn't handle the pressure and gave in by ditching Muungano, he joined Wiper party.Kibwana was issued with a direct Wiper nomination ticket to defend his seat making him win the hotly contested election.
