For the elderly women, they will tell you that vaginal delivery is the best and caesarean should only be conducted in case of an emergency.

Things are, however, changing as most young women, especially those who have not given birth, tend to think of caesarean section as the better option. Young ladies fear labour during delivery and thus feel that pain can be dealt with by use of anaesthesia during a CS.

For Irene Kibet who is still a student, "vaginal delivery is a nightmare. With all the drama I have heard of in the labour wards and the tales I am told of by those who have gone through vaginal delivery, I don't think I am strong enough to go through it. I would rather go for the CS."

However, Halima Hassan, a mother of two, has a different opinion. She says that she has never had normal delivery yet it's what she really wanted.

"What young women do not know is that CS has its repercussions. Yes you won't feel pain during delivery but after that you take a longer period to heal,’’ she said.

Halima adds that she had difficulties breastfeeding her children due to abdominal pains and she could hardly do any household chores until after three months when her wound healed. For her, she wishes that she would have had a normal delivery in future but she cannot according to the doctor.

Mary Immanuel has a different story. She has had both a CS and vaginal delivery. For her, the two are like heaven and earth. Her first pregnancy had complications and a CS had to be done. However, she had two normal deliveries afterwards which she says are far much better since she has had an easier time, unlike her first delivery.

Even if young girls fear the pain of giving birth and think that CS is better since it's less painful, doctors advise that vaginal delivery is the best and it's even safer.
