Young Farmers Club of Kenya has partnered with the Agriculture Society of Kenya (ASK) Eldoret branch to plant trees at Kosachei Secondary school in an effort of making the country achieve 10 percent forest cover.
According to the Eldoret ASK Eldoret Branch Chairman Ratcliff Nangalama, the event will be conducted on Saturday, May 12, the day President Uhuru Kenyatta will be launching the National Tree Planting day.
Speaking at the ASK offices on Monday, Nangalama said they are targeting to plant at least 5,000 tree seedlings during the exercise.
"Our aim is to ensure we at least increase the forest cover from the current 7 percent to at least 25 percent," said Nangalama.
"Let every Kenyan plant at least one tree seedling for a sustainable cleaner and greener environment in future," he added.
Tree planting is an annual exercise for the Young Farmers Club of Kenya and this year's theme is 'creating a cleaner and greener environment for a future generation'.
The event will be graced by area Member of Parliament Janet Rotich among other local leaders who have confirmed participation.
