The government is planning to roll out Huduma smart cards to help Kenyans access services easily and make payments more convenient. Huduma Kenya Chief Executive Officer Dennis Mutuku said the card was scheduled for a roll out in October.
“This will be the largest rollout of a formal Government electronic payments solution in East Africa and will see both the Kenyan Government and its citizenry benefit from the safety and convenience of electronic payments,” said Mutuku in the report.
If this will succeed, then it will be a lot easier for Kenyans to transact with the government. Electronic payment is the future of financial transactions and the earlier the government incorporated it the better.
Apart from making it convenient for Kenyans to pay for government services at the comfort of their homes, electronic payment will also reduce cases of corruption.
In the long run, electronic payment will do away with cartels who have for a long time made it difficult and expensive for Kenyans to access government documents. In short, Huduma smart cards will be a game-changer.
Smart cards have made it easier for people, the world over, to transact easily and conveniently with banks.
