Kisumu County Governor Professor Anyang’ Nyong’o has today revealed that the devolved unit has suffered debts to the tune of 3.5 billion
Prof. Nyong’o made the disclosure while launching a Task Force of Kisumu County Government envisaged at streamlining operations as the new team led by him and his deputy Dr. Matthews Owili sets off to start
Seven sub-counties: Nyando, Nyakach, Muhoroni, Kisumu East, Kisumu West, Kisumu Central and Seme Nyong’o said have not been remitting their revenues over the last nine months.
He revealed that another 17 million shillings pending bill was owed to Kenya Power Company as a result of street lighting amenities thus culminated in the disconnection hence plunging sections of the Lake side city in partial darkness.
Prof. Nyong’o disclosed that on the day his team visited Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital (JOOTRH) to visit victims of post-election violence, he found out that the hospital has accrued unpaid bills summing to 780,000 shillings.
Prof. Nyong’o said the task force has also been mandated to enable a smooth changeover in policy and practical terms, including taking stock of assets and liabilities in the respective task areas.
The task force will be coordinated by Patrick Ouya who is the new Chief of Staff to spearhead galvanization of resources from outside government where such possibilities existed.
The team has 90 days within which to finalize its work before handing in its recommendations for swift action.
Prof. Nyong’o eventually revealed that a new hospital will be built in collaboration with some development partners and as a result 30 percent of the poorest of patients will be treated free of charge while the remaining 70 per cent will sustain the facility
