The residents of the semi-arid parts of Thika constituency have a reason to smile, after area MP Alice Ng’ang’a promised to disburse 10 green houses on Friday, when she will be hosting Deputy President William Ruto.
The Sh10 million worth green houses will be used by the agriculture-oriented groups in the area, which approached the MP for the purchase of the same.
The Gatuanyaga, Ngoliba and Komo irrigation projects, which have just been completed will be graced on the same day by the Deputy President, and the farmers will be ready to start farming onwards.
Speaking in Thika town on Tuesday, Ng’ang’a said that the residents will soon stop decrying over drought and famine despite the dry state of the areas.
The have been urging the county government to supply them with relief food but in vain, until the MP came and disbursed some to the people on Monday.
She now plans to launch the Sh20 million irrigation projects, to curb the hunger and starvation challenges that have been hitting the area, leading to school drop outs as children miss school due to starvation.
Ng’ang’a has called on the farmers to be ready to start farming, and that no one should lag behind this time when they should be preparing to harvest huge.
