Residents of Kisiiki Location on the Mavoloni Hill slope in Yatta spent a sleepless Monday night after a huge rock rolled down the hill due to the prevailing heavy rains in the region.

The rock is said to have destroyed two houses completely and shaken several others. Among the destroyed houses, one belonged to a 60-year-old man who was covered by the bricks of his fallen walls completely.

Luckily enough, villagers arrived at his rescue fast enough to find him still breathing. The old man, however sustained serious injuries and was rushed to Matuu General Hospital. Other victims were able to narrowly escape from the falling house walls.

Yatta OCPD Edward Changach arrived at the scene early Tuesday morning and ensured that nobody lost their life from the tragedy.

He warned residents of that particular area to start vacating the slope since there is possibility that such incidents will continue to occur due to the heavy rains.

"It’s advisable for you people to start moving to other areas despite how inconveniencing it might seem because staying here during such a season is risking your lives and your property," said Changach.

He recommended at least an immediate temporal vacation for the residence a d said if they like they could come back during safer seasons of the year.
