The Kisii County government should act fast to find alternative parking for vehicles picking people for burial from Christa Marianne hospital near Mwembe, a group of residents have said.
According to them, most people picking their loved ones from the hospital park their vehicles along the road, exposing pedestrians to dangers when walking along the road.
Last week, a university student lost her life when walking along the highway after confusion between two vehicles, a move that sparked heated debate over parking along the road.
But on Thursday, most residents were of the opinion that the county government and the hospital’s management take responsibility and look for alternative parking.
“The pavements along the highway are meant for pedestrians but motorists have hijacked it and are using it as a temporary parking lot. There is a lot of confusion along the highway and this even lead to the death of a young girl,” said Obina Nyambane.
“This is purely a fault of the county government and the hospital since these are their clients who pay taxes. There is need to allocate a parking lot for those ferrying their loved ones from the mortuary,” he added.
They said the situation may escalate if an immediate action is not taken because even motorcycle riders have also been casualties before during separate incidents,” added Kelvin Odongo.
