Kikuyu sub-county residents have been praised for their commitment to the monthly land board meeting that is meant to solve plot issues.
Area deputy county commissioner Elias Kithaura was grateful for the huge turnout for this month’s meeting, held at the Kikuyu sub-county grounds.
“The meeting is held on the second week of every month,” the deputy county boss said.
“The main aim is to prevent land disputes and settle domestic land issues that are the major cause of domestic violence in the sub-county.”
He said that the large turnout is encouraging as the sub-county looks forward to reduced land tussles among families in the area. He added that if people wish to sell their land, they must be accompanied by the buyer and appear before the land board committee so that they can sign an agreement document.
The land seller must produce the original title deed before the committee so that he can be cleared to sell the land.
To divide land between family members, Kithaura said that the landowner must be accompanied by his wife(s) and the children. They must have the original title deed and an agreement form must be filled indicating the size of land that each member is to receive.
He also emphasised that if family does not reach an agreement before the land board committee, then they are advised to take the case to court.
Kithaura added that the area land board is recognised by the Ministry of Lands and tries to be accountable at all times.
The committee, headed by Kithaura, consists of several land owners from Kikuyu.
