Kikuyu MP, Kimani Ichung’wa, has said that the turnout is shocking and there must be something special in the seat.

The seat was left vacant after the murder of former Kabete MP, George Muchai.

Speaking in his constituency on Monday, Ichung'wa said that there is suspicion on why many people have shown interest in the seat. He noted that Muchai did not have great opposition in the last elections.

“Muchai won the seat easily without big opposition. It is shocking why 25 people should be vying for such a seat. What is big in this seat I do not know but I am sure there must be something,” said Ichung’wa.

He added that the nomination should be highly monitored as there could be an attempt to rig.

“The elections are much awaited by the residents as well as the new Jubilee Alliance Party (JAP) which will be fielding a candidate for the first time in central region,” he noted.

Ichung’wa called on the Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) to ensure that no one interferes with the by elections.

Kimani has challenged the residents not to accept anyone who is not legible for the nomination saying that Kabete needs a responsible person like Muchai.

The MP said he will support anyone nominated by JAP.
