It is a sigh of relief to the residents of Hulugho Sub-County of Garissa who have for ages lived without power supply. According to Hulugho Sub-County Commissioner (DCC) Tom Siele, the government will greenlight the process of connecting households and businesses to the national electricity grid from next year in the bid to boost business for the locals.
Power supply remains one of the major key agendas in the Jubilee administration manifesto. However, some of Kenya’s remote areas still have not experienced the impact of electricity as they are far from the national electricity grid.
addressing community elders and residents of Hulugho at Hulugho Baraza Park yesterday, (Friday) Siele assured the residents that the government will commission Hulugho power supply campaign next year.
“I know it has been a long wait for many who want to see their businesses grow but are hindered by electricity challenges. Here is the good news, the government of Kenya will ensure all residents in this area get access to electricity supply,” Said Siele.
Besides the DCC was also quick to observe that the Sinai community that is based at the Kenya Somalia border are facing it rough as their children lack a school to attend This is because the Kenyan military set up a temporary military base at the resident’s sole school.
Community leaders seized the opportunity to call on the government to revamp roads accessing the Boni forest to allow for easy access to security havens in the forest in times when danger strikes.
In efforts to combat terrorism and insecurity, Siele urged the residents to engage the police and other security officials in case they have leads to terrorists and troublemakers in the region.
Hulugho residents led by their leaders including Sheikh Mohamud, Mrs. Bishoy Ali Dahir, and Ahmed Keer pleaded with the county governor, Ali Bunow Korane to be considerate of the seven sub-counties when giving out employment and give equal chances.
