Human rights activist Maina Kiai has warned police against using excessive force on peaceful protestors protesting against the presidential results released by IEBC on Friday in some parts of the country.
In an interview with the Standard, Saturday, Kiai said that police have no right to use excess force on unarmed demonstrators.
He said that desturbing pictures allegedly showing police officers using excessive force on protestors in areas that have been rocked with post poll protests is a violation of the constitution.
The Human rights activist said that the constitution gives Kenyans the right to protest peacefully.
He accused the police of provoking protestors and using excess force to contain them.
''It is unacceptable for police to use force in containing protestors and they should know that the world is watching what is happening,''he said as quoted by the Standard.
Kiai urged protestors to demonstrate peacefully as required by the constitution.
He also warned the the police against harassing innocent people especially children and women as they contain protests that have been reported in some parts of Nairobi, Kisumu, Siaya and Migori counties.
Media reports claim that several people have been killed in protests that have rocked some parts of the country following declaration of presidential results that saw president Uhuru Kenyatta announced winner on Friday night.
Acting Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i has however denied claims of deaths in protests reported since Friday night.
Matiang'i also denies claims that police are using force and live bullets to disperse protestors.
Early Saturday morning, a journalist working with a local media house was arrested covering protetests in Kibera, Nairobi.
The scribe and his cameraman were accused of wearing police protective gear while covering the protests.
The journalist and the cameraman have since been released.
The opposition alliance, NASA disputed the presidential results alleging rigging.
The opposion leader Raila Odinga is yet to address the nation after the IEBC declared Kenyatta winner of the general election on Friday night.
