This was announced today by the regional director of Awareness against Human Trafficking (HAART) Radoslaw Malinowski when he met officials of the NCD at the diocese offices.

The NGO director noted that there was a need to provide more awareness against human trafficking and the abuse of marginalized people  in the country.

This awareness would be created through the establishment of a centre where victims can receive counselling, medical attention, and economic empowerment to heal the psychological impacts caused by their capture.

“This initiative will be a milestone in our campaign against human trafficking and other human rights abuses. We shall closely work with the government to ensure that the programme succeeds,” said Malinowski.

He added that Nakuru was vulnerable to such abuses due to it becoming a fast growing urban economic hub.

Malinowski further noted that many ordinary people gripped in poverty especially young women were vulnerable to human trafficking.

The crime of human trafficking eroded their human rights and dignity and that there is a need to establish an awareness coordinating centre in the region.

He noted that according to statistics Kenya is among the most affected countries in Africa when it comes to human trafficking crimes.

This was because of the high rate of unemployment and population growth. Malinowski called upon all stakeholders to increase campaigns against the menace of human trafficking.
