Action for Children in Conflict has launched a programme to rehabilitate street children in Thika Town.

Speaking during the occasion, John Muiruri, the CEO of the organisation said that they intend to provide a better environment to the street children during the festive season.

He said the children would meet at Broadway Primary School in Kiandutu slums to receive training in sports and arts.

“We are targeting to enrol more than, 1,000 street children from Thika Town and provide them with skills during this festive season,” said Muiruri.

He said that most street children have been abandoned by the society and there is need to cater them.

“The street children are part of society and they should not be despised on the ground that they are homeless,” said the CEO.

He noted that the town has seen a rise in the number of street children and there is need to address situation.

“The community should join hands together to address the situation before it gets out of hand,” said Muiruri.

He urged other stake holders to come forward and address the plight of the street children to enable them enjoy the freedom like other children.

Trainer Elizabeth Wangari who will be in charge of training the children said that the organisation will be charged with the task of promoting good discipline among the children.

“We will training the children on the aspects of various sports from football and tennis to performing music,” said Wangari.

She asked the community living near the town to support the programme to make it successful.
