More bodies continued to arrive in Nairobi from Garissa University College after yesterday’s attack by Al Shabaab militants.
A few minutes ago, 48 bodies arrived at the Wilson Airport before being transferred to Chiromo Mortuary where hundreds of people are queueing to identify the bodies of their loved ones.
People whose relatives are still missing are being referred to the mortuary in Nairobi where the bodies have been transferred to.
Last night, Interior Cabinet Secretary Joseph Nkaissery announced the end of the rescue operation that also saw for terrorists killed and one who tried to flee arrested.
Security is still tight at the University and Garissa Town but parents have been barred from the Garissa airstrip where students who were rescued and those who fled the scene spent the night.
Business is slowly returning to normal in Garissa town but sounds of sirens rushing to and out of the institution are still heard as residents resume duties cautiously.
At the same time, Education CS Prof Jacob Kaimenyi has ordered the closure of Garissa University College indefinitely following the attack that left more than 147 students dead.
Prof Kaimenyi says that the ministry will liaise with Moi University to ensure that the learning for students from the institution is not disrupted.
The Kenya Red Cross is offering psycho-social support, tracing and information regarding the whereabouts of those from the university at the Chiromo Mortuary to assist affected families of Garissa attack.
