[Photo/Mombasa Sub-County Administration]Hundreds of motor garbage collectors as well as those using carts famously known as Mkokoteni guys flocked the County environment offices to ensure they are registered. This followed a directive from the governor's (Hassan Joho) office on garbage disposal and closure of all collection points. For the registration process, a collector needs to have approval from NEMA having fulfilled the set requirements. They are to be issued with laminated slip to be used for identification. This also goes in line with the provision stipulated in the County Waste Management Act that states; No unlicensed person shall be allowed to transport waste. Governor Joho said the move aims to streamline and bring order so as to ensure responsible and accountable waste disposal to the three official dumping sites in the County - Kibarani, Mwakirunge and Shonda.Hundreds of interested garbage collectors thronged the county government offices on Monday to be licensed.
