Over 100 people have been left homeless after arsonists burnt 20 houses along the Garissa-Isiolo border on Monday morning.
The arsonists are said to have descended on their huts and torched them as residents were still asleep.
No one was, however, killed or injured during the attack.
Those raided are residents of Janjuh, a contested area along the Garissa Isiolo border claimed by communities from both counties.
A resident said suspected members of the Borana community committed the heinous act after accusing members of the Somali community of encroaching o their land which is in Janjuh.
North Eastern Regional Commissioner Muhamud Saleh said authorities have launched investigations into the attack promising to bring the perpetrators to book.
"We heard stories of border conflict, others of cattle grazing and water point conflicts. We have begun our own investigations and we will ensure those responsible are arrested," Saleh told journalists.
Among other leaders who visited the areas where the attack occurred include MPs Mohamed Hire (Lagdera) Isiolo Woman Representative Rehema Dida and Isiolo North MP Hassan Oda.
Conflicts in the area mainly revolve fighting cattle grazing grounds and water points for livestock as tribes living in the zone are cattle keepers who move from one point to the other looking for pasture and water.
